Alright last time I tried to be all fancy with my comic reviews with images and everything, but comic book covers are apparently impossible to find so I am going to skip them this time around. Maybe if I can find a reliable source for them I will include them next time. Now on with the show...
Son of M #6(of 6) (Marvel Comics)
When this series was first announced I was definately not sure if I thought it was going to be any good, but Marvel ends Decimation with a bang. The series which like most 6 issue mini series dragged on about 2 issues too long, but the ending more than makes up for it. After poisoning himself with the Terrigen Mists over the last 3 or 4 issues Quicksilver finally has had his fill and now is able to give mutants there powers back. Of course as we saw earlier in the series these powers are unstable and don't last, but will this new super power that Quicksilver had unlocked in himself be a permanent solution? Oh yeah, and the Inhumans declare war on Earth. There was that too. All in all Son of M was definately the highlight of Decimation. 4/5
New Avengers #19 (Marvel Comics)
I had recently re-read House of M when it showed up in trade paperback, and there is a final image a cliffhanger if you will, that left a lot of people scratching their heads. It is wondered aloud what will happen to all the energies of all the suddenly depowered mutants. Well I for one along with many people just kind of forgot about it . Well the Collective arc of New Avengers finally gives us the answer with Bendis nicely tying up one of the final loose ends of House of M. 2 issues ago a being with power never seen before(he rips apart an entire town in Alaska in like a second, and kills Alpha Flight without blinking)arrives on Earth. Turns out this being IS all the energy of all the depowered mutants. It's a brilliant move making for a brilliant arc with lots of intresting twists and turns, as well as some excellent action sequences. Including a fight between the being and The Sentry. One of the greatest twists of the year, a definate must read in the post House of M Marvel Universe.4/5
Ultimate Spider-Man #95 (Marvel Comics)
The Morbius arc begins a short and sweet 2 issue tale before the big guns get broken out for the countdown to the 100th issue. The issue begins with a misunderstanding between Spider-Man and Ultimate Blade, the story then moves to the daily bugle where Ben Urich is doing an investigation involving a woman who may have been bitten by a vampire. This leads Ben to do more investigating and running into ole Morbius himself. There is also a very cute scene involving Kitty and Peter which is always welcome in Ultimate Spider-Man, I'm a huge fan of this book and Bendis has proven himself on these quickie 2 issue arcs which in times of 6+ issue arcs are a welcome change. Morbius will be a nice appetizer before we get the main course of the Clone Saga. 3/5
Ultimate Extinction #5(of 5) (Marvel Comics)
It's hare to believe that the Ultimate Galactus trilogy began 2 years ago. It's the first time I had actually read anything by Warren Ellis(gasp! I know). Between the delays, the length of the first mini, and the questionable artwork I have managed to remain intrested in this trilogy, and it all ends here. This issue is....sloppy to say the least. The ending...comes out of left field and the artwork feels terribly rushed. Overall I think the Ultimate Galactus story was good, but this ending just makes 2 years of waiting fell.....maybe not worth it. I hate to say I out and out hated a book, but this was a very forgetable ending to something that seemed so epic. I also see no consequences to the story, it really changed nothing. It will make for a hell of a self contained story, and you can sign me up for the eventual Trilogy Hardcover, but as a single issue, this was lacking. 2/5
The Punisher: The Tyger (Max Comics)
Garth Ennis does it again, the man is unstopable on the Punisher. This long delayed one shot finally hits stands and even if you aren't following the Punisher currently it is a MUST read especially if you read Born, as parts of it feel like a companion piece to it. Ennis has been doing the most amazing things with the Punisher. First he writes his definative origin in Born, then starts writing the uncut monthly series, then fleshes out Born with a bunch of amazing one shots. Ennis doesn't just write The Punisher he is creating the Punisher. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! 5/5
Transformers: Infiltration #5(of 6) (IDW)
Alright, I give up, I can't read Transformers comic books anymore. Once issue 6 of this ships I am done. I loves me some Transformers, but the comics I just can't get into. I tried when Dreamwave did them, but found myself bored, tried again with this, and more of the same boredom. I can't do it. Sorry Transformers your comics just don't do it for me. 2/5
I will be back later with another update.
