038-Comic Reviews For 6/7 and 6/14 2006

Here are the reviews for the books I read this week..SPOILERS EVERYWHERE!

Civil War: Frontline #1(of 10) (Marvel Comics)
Writer: Paul Jenkins
Artists: Steve Lieber, Ramon Bachs, Kei Kobayashi

So Marvel's ambitious bi-weekly ten issue mini series about reporters on the Front Lines of the Civil War begins and it is a delight. Jenkins really captures the vibe of a reporter in his Generation M mini series that came in the aftermath of House of M. The character from that series stars in this one as well along with Daily Bugle reporter Ben Urich. What we get here in the main story(of 3!) is how an independent paper is going to cover the war and how a major metropolitan newspaper will be covering the war. Now Marvel has said at length that the complete story of Civil War will be contained in Civil War and you wont have to buy the tons of tie in books that will be released at the same time. However, after reading this I call bullshit cause some major events happen in this book. The big one being that Iron Man reveals himself to the public as Tony Stark. This book seems just as important as Civil War, and it feels important. It's amazingly written and the artwork is top notch. Everyone here is at the top of their games and I hope it can continue for 9 more issues. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! 5/5

The Punisher #34 (Max Comics)

Writer: Garth Ennis
Artist: Goran Parlov

The Barricuda arc keeps barreling along, I don't know what else I can really say about this book, I think Garth Ennis may actually be the Punisher that's how well he tells these stories. Parlov's artwrok keeps getting better and fits this arc perfectly. 4/5

Wonder Woman #1 (DC Comics)

Writer: Allan Heinberg
Artists: Terry and Rachel Dodson

So I picked this up for Jennifer cause she is a huge Wonder Woman fan, and as a fan of both the writer and artists I decided to check it out myself. I don't completely understand what is going on in the DC U right now cause I don't really care actually, but Heinberg does a bang up job getting new readers up to speed. Holy crap it's the best recap in action I have ever seen. Overall though the story does nothing for me. It ends with an intresting cliffhanger and leaves you wondering just who is this "new" Wonder Woman, and will the "real" one ever come back, so I will pick up issue 2 for Jennifer and I will also be readin with the hopes that everything comes together nicely. 3/5

Civil War #2(of 7) (Marvel Comics)
Writer: Mark Millar
Artist: Steve McNiven

The Civil War continues and it's wall to wall jaw dropping fun. Captain America has gone with a group of heroes (including the Young Avengers!!) underground to fight against the now passed Superhuman Registration Act, Iron Man begins planning "The Initiative" and Peter Parker reveals himself as Spider-Man to the media(!!!!!!!!). Civil War is THE book to be reading this year, and what it does to the Marvel U. I can't even begin to imagine, and this is only 2 issues in. 5/5

Wolverine Origins #3 (Marvel Comics)
Writer: Daniel Way
Artist: Steve Dillon

I was really nervous about Wolverine Origins I mean just read my review of the first issue. The first issue was really good, the second one made me kind of nervous, but the third issue is where the doors get blown wide open. It all comes together and everything clicks. If you were doubting this series...don't cause the puzzle pieces are coming fast, but it's all coming together quite nicely. Job well done on this one Marvel! 4/5
