A few days ago I jumped on the Lair bashing bandwagon, despite the fact that I haven't played it. Now I could mention that since I have wrote that Lair has gone down 2 more points on the metacritic scale, but I wont. The reason I am apologizing is because that in that post I mentioned that it was the only game out right now that mattered on the PS3. However, I am wrong I totally forgot about Warhawk. Not only does Warhawk actually interest me it's getting good reviews. Metacritic is showing a 84 out of 100 score.
Warhawk is a remake of a PS1 game in which you take control of jets, tanks, and of course the Warhawk. The Warhawk is a fully armed and operational death star helicopter. The original game was just an old run of the mill futuristic shooter. The PS3 version is a multiplayer only downloadable title(also available at retail for full price, but includes a bluetooth head set) for 40 bucks. Which of course is 20 bucks cheaper than that other multiplayer only title, but I think 40 dollars is a lot to ask for a game that only exists on a hard drive inside your PS3. You can't take it with you, you can't trade it in, you can only play it on YOUR PS3 Online only. I think the only thing that could save Warhawk from this monetary criticism is if ALL downloadable content for Warhawk was free. You can bet your sweet ass if there is ever any DLC for Warhawk and it costs even a dime, we are never going to hear the end of it.
The bitching wont stop over the Sixaxis controller either. You use the motion controls in the controller to control the Warhawk and apparently it's not working too well(just ask that damn dragon). I think very soon we are going to see less and less games using the motion controls on the PS3. Let's leave the motion sensing to the professionals.
I do have to give Warhawk some mega props for 32 player multiplayer. 32 players is pretty epic for a console, so I applaud them for getting that to work. I would love to give Warhawk a fair shot, unfortunately my credit is not good enough to take out a loan to afford a PS3. I am a big fan of frantic online multiplayer and this sounds like it's up my alley.
