131-Let's Talk About Crackdown Part 1

Sorry I left you guys hanging for a couple of days. Life called. So over the weekend I caved in and downloaded the crackdown demo. I fully expected to hate this game for two reasons. One, how could a game bundled with the beta for Halo 3 be any good. They are just screaming "HEY THIS GAME SUCKS!!! HEY LOOK!!! HALO 3!!!". Second, I hate Grand Theft Auto, hate, hate, hate it.

So I downloaded the demo cause the thought of playing Halo 3 beta just tickles me in all the right spots. The first thing I noticed was the great use of cel-shading, I think the style completely fits this game. I usually don't like it, but I have to hand it to the guys at Realtime Worlds it makes the game feel cool and superheroey. So while there isn't much of a story, the sense of freedom is amazing. Power up your dude by collecting orbs scattered across the city, and then jump like a kangaroo all over it. If Grand Theft Auto 4 is anywhere near as free feeling as this, I might have to give it a look. The concept here is what is really hooking me though, it's basically a superhero game, give a guy big guns and crazy super powers and then let him go nuts. Why didn't someone think of this before?

So want to know what I really think. I just got home. From the store. Where I bought the full game. I am going to kick back with it for a couple of hours, I'll be back to let you know what I think of the post-demo stuff. In the meantime Joystiq has one of their meta-reviews up.
