So last night something funny happened in the Call of Duty 4 beta, and it's something that people have been kind of afraid of. Call of Duty 4 has a leveling system a very clever one actually. You don't just get experience points from killing dudez you get it from becoming an expert in certain weapons. It's quite a fun little system, but people were afraid that if you start at level 1 and get into a game with some level 10s you were going to get slaughtered. The beta was capped at level 11(I don't know if they have said how high it will go in the retail game)but last night that cap was lifted to level 16.
I was a pretty decent level 10, but sure enough I got into a few games with some 15s and 16s and got my ass handed to me. I am about halfway to level 11, but I got frustrated and stopped playing. I think I am going to do quite a bit of gaming tonight (I need to play some Gears of War) and my goal is to hit level 14 so I'll come back and let you know if it got any easier for me. I am loving the game a lot, and I really didn't enjoy the previous three CoD games so I have to give credit to Infinity Ward for really stepping it up for what could have been just another Call of Duty game they could have made in their sleep. Call of Duty fans seem pretty hardcore and I am sure they would have bought another lazy WWII game. So it's cool to see this much creativity and an entirely new setting for part 4. They got me hooked, and the game has landed in my most anticipated of the year.
