So if you have been reading my posts with any sort of regularity you know that I have been working what we in the business call a shit ton of hours. This includes 30+ hours of overtime, and slowly but surely the massive debt I built up running a record label and spending recklessly is finally shrinking. Saving can begin, and I would also like to get myself a nice shiny new gadget seeing as how back in January I was nearly sued and had to sell most of my fun time gadgets. So now I have the opporutnity to buy an Xbox 360, build a cheap(ish) gaming PC or buy a pocket PC. I think I am going to pass on the 360 for a bit longer cause I don't even have a nice TV to play it on, and I can wait for Gears of War or Halo 3. I also like the idea of a pocket PC. Something Windows based so I can do Live Anywhere with it later next year when Vista hits. I like this Dell model here:
but Cingular my cell phone provider has this little number:
The problem there is that to use it as a phone AND as a pocket PC it would cost $75 a month on top of that fact that it's actually more expensive than that Dell Axim. It is pretty sweet though.
However I think the winner is building my own gaming PC. It's something I have wanted to do for quite some time, and the fates smiled on me this week when my new issue of Computer Gaming world came in with an article on how to build a very decent gaming rig for under $700. Well imagine my surprise when I priced it out on a couple of computer part websites and found I could build it for under $550. If you know anything about PCs maybe you could help me out cause here is the parts list:
Athlon 64 3000+
EVGA nForce4 SLi Motherboard (133-K8-NF41)
1GB Corsair Value Select DDR400 RAM 2x512
EVGA GeForce 7600 GT or GS
200 GB Seagate SATA Drive
Lite-On CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive
Antec Sonata Case with 500W Power Supply
Now remember this computer would be ONLY used to play games. I know it's nowhere near the best you can make but apparently it handles most games real well. Any changes you would make that would only increase the price a few bucks but would make a world of difference? Plus I know the motherboard is capable of letting me make huge improvements when I am ready/can afford to.
